Ingredients:
- Boiled Chana Dal: 2 cups
- Finely chopped Onion: 2 small to medium-sized
- Finely chopped Green Chillies: As per taste
- Finely chopped Coriander: 1/2 cup
- Besan (Gram Flour) or Bread Crumbs: For binding
- Masalas:
- Coriander powder: 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder: 1/2 tsp (adjust to taste)
- Jeera (cumin) powder: 1/2 tsp
- Sabut Jeera (whole cumin seeds): 1/2 tsp
- Garam Masala powder: 1/2 tsp
- Black salt: 1/4 tsp
- Salt: To taste
- Haldi (turmeric) powder: 1/4 tsp
- Chaat Masala: 1/2 tsp
- Mustard and Refined Oil:
Instructions:
1. Mash the Boiled Chana Dal:
- In a large mixing bowl, mash the boiled chana dal with a masher or the back of a spoon. You can keep it a bit coarse for texture.
2. Add Chopped Ingredients:
- Add the finely chopped onions, green chillies, and coriander to the mashed dal.
3. Mix in the Masalas:
- Add all the dry spices: coriander powder, red chilli powder, jeera powder, sabut jeera, garam masala, black salt, regular salt, haldi powder, and chaat masala. Mix everything well.
4. Binding the Mixture:
- Add besan or bread crumbs to the mixture. Start with a small amount and gradually add more if needed. The mixture should be firm enough to hold its shape when formed into tikkis.
5. Shaping the Tikkis:
- Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into flat round patties (tikkis). You can make them as thick or thin as you like.
6. Cooking the Tikkis:
- Heat a pan or tawa with some oil. Shallow fry the tikkis on medium heat until golden brown and crisp on both sides. It will take about 3-4 minutes per side, depending on the thickness of the tikki.
7. Serve:
- Serve hot with chutney, ketchup, or a side of yogurt.
Enjoy your crispy and flavorful Chana Dal Tikki
