When I first started traveling solo many people around me told me: “Don’t go to that country, don’t go there, don’t go to that one.”

It was all well meant of course, but I did my own research and in most countries they told me were dangerous I felt extremely welcome and safe.

Serbia for instance. When I first went I had sooo many people asking me: “is that safe?” Usually I replied: “Safer than most countries in Europe.”

And I really do believe that. I have spoken to many Serbians and I have visited Serbia a couple of times now and I always hear and experience positivity.

There’s not many countries where the people welcomed me more hospitable than in Serbia.

Never blindly follow the words of people that don’t travel and just watch the news. Obviously they can also be right sometimes, but always do your own research.

Talk to locals and experienced travelers you trust. If they say it’s safe, then decide!
