Ms Asami Takahashi ( Attaché, Embassy of Japan, United Kingdom) shares her impressions about the ASEF Public Diplomacy online training.
The course consisted of seven weeks of online sessions, as well as face-to-face training. During the online part, each week, students read texts on a given topic and made annotations about their experiences and insights. Takahashi doesn't come from a public diplomacy background, but this feature helped her tie the learnings back into her own experiences. She found it inspiring and fun to get feedback and input from other participants, as well as lecturers who facilitated the discussions.
Students were also assigned to deliver a presentation in small groups, and she found that they all benefited from the diversity of backgrounds and experiences from other team members from both Asia and Europe. In creating the presentation together, they were able to enhance their understanding of public diplomacy.
