The Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad is currently in the process of restoring the historic Mark Twain Zephyr train set (and one train car of the Pioneer Zephyr). The Mark Twain Zephyr operated from 1935 to 1958 on various routes of the CB&Q, mainly in Iowa and Missouri...
After passing through seven owners over the course of 60 years (1960-2020) who did not have the time, means, or money to restore it... the Wisconsin Great Northern is finally undertaking and completing the task. Until its completion, we will provide weekly video updates (usually on Sunday afternoons) to show you the progress made in the past week on the MTZ.
On the Sunday, December 12 2021 update, when the weather turns cold and snowy... our crews make use of the their time to finish some of the minor interior projects that still need to be completed on the Mark Twain Zephyr. Bob shows us the heating work he has done on "Effie Dean", some of the door frames and trim on "Tom Sawyer"... as well as taking us into the WGNRR articulated dining cars where a new door frame is being constructed for the MTZ.
