A walk on Breen Down will take you on a journey from Neolithic man through the Roman era to the peninsula's vital role defending the southwest during the second world war. Discover more about the history of this unique stretch of Somerset coast. That what I'm showing you right there is a very steep drop down to the ocean and from this point you can't even see the beach. Look how far I've come out and there's still more to go from here yet. I have no words to describe what I am seeing all around me and I'm pretty much sure that you guys can imagine yourself. Look at the views and look at the trees they have been shaped by the wind blowing in this south westerly direction and it is an amazing spot to get a picture moment. As you pass over this path you have a choice. I chose to go to the higher point and keep walking this way. This will give you some amazing views of the end of the Breen Down and the fort.
Brean Down is a promontory off the coast of Somerset, England, standing 318 feet high and extending 1.5 miles into the Bristol Channel at the eastern end of Bridgwater Bay between Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea. Made of Carboniferous Limestone, it is a continuation of the Mendip Hills.
Coast
A 97-metre-high down with views out over the Bristol Channel towards South Wales and over the Somerset Levels.
Roman temple
Ancient field systems and the archaeological remains of a Roman temple lie near the steps on Brean’s south side.
Palmerston Fort
The fort is now a ruin, but was built to to defend the country against a possible Napoleonic invasion.
