Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland spoke on Wednesday after the second meeting of a Canada-U.S. Cabinet committee.
“We focused on the border between Canada and the United States and the economic relationship between Canada and the United States. It was a very good, productive conversation,” Freeland said.
Speaking on the possible impact of the incoming Trump administration, Freeland said “the economic relationship between Canada and the United States is today governed by a trade agreement that was negotiated by President Trump himself.” She added “The economic fundamentals of the relationship between our two countries are strong.”
When the topic of the Canada-U.S. border arose and the possibility of an influx of migrants entering Canada from the United States, Freeland said “We take border security absolutely seriously… We will ensure that Canada's borders are secure and that we have the necessary resources to ensure that they're secure.”
