Two persons were killed and dozens, including locals and army personnel, were feared trapped under the debris after a massive landslide occurred at an Indian army company location in Manipur on Thursday midnight. According to sources, the landslide struck the company location of 107 territorial army of the Indian army deployed near Tupul Railway station in Noney district. Notably, they were deployed for protection of an under construction railway line from Jiribam to Imphal. It is to be mentioned that full scale rescue operations are in progress by columns of Indian Army and Assam Rifles. Meanwhile, the available engineer plant equipment on site has been pressed into the rescue efforts. The injured individuals are being treated at Noney army medical unit while evacuation of the critically injured personnel is in progress. The rescue operations are being hampered by fresh landslides and bad weather, however a concerted effort is underway to rescue the missing individuals. Notably, the army helicopters are on standby waiting for the weather to clear.
