I recently bought some CPU's on Gumtree for $20 AUD (~$14 USD) for the sole purpose of delidding. One day I may relid and test to see if any work, but for the time being I'm getting accustomed to delidding some cheaper chips so as to not break a known good CPU.
Delidding can potentially be deadly to a CPU, I don't condone delidding without experience, or without supervision by somebody experienced in delidding.
