Ringo was the only Beatle not to go through the Quarry Men route.
In the late 1950s he performed with various Liverpool skiffle groups, before joining the Raving Texans in late 1959. The Raving Texans became Rory Storm and the Hurricanes and that was where Ringo stayed, until he played his first gig as an official Beatle on 18 August 1962.
Although, that was not the first time that Ringo played with the Beatles. He regularly stood in as drummer whilst they were in Hamburg. In the October of 1960 he even played at a recording session with them in Hamburg.
