Cliché or not, history does indeed repeat itself. As with the many histories of the independence of nations from their colonial occupier, Algeria in the mid 20th century, went through their own process of liberation. A main difference for Algeria was how France, its occupier, attempted to grab a hold of the Arab nation till the last breaths of colonial existence.
The Algerians went through severe struggles, hardships, sacrifice and martyrdom to achieve what others did in bloodless engagements with the French.
This is the Algerians’ story, and how regardless of how much time had passed, independence from occupation and self rule, is a vital element of the human existence.
CLARIFICATION: The title of the video states that the number of martyrs in the Algerian revolution stands at 1 million, but in fact the number of deaths throughout the history of resistance against the French and struggle for independence numbers 1.5 million.
