Counting of the Omer begins on the second day of Passover and lasts until Shavuot. In the wisdom of Kabbalah, each of 49 (7x7) days means a particular degree of correcting our egos.
The path from Egypt to Mount Sinai is a ladder of gradual changes in our intentions – from reception to bestowal, from hatred to love, from Malchut to Bina. The whole matter of this transition is to acquire new qualities, where we stop using our desire to receive as we used to under the guidance of Pharaoh and aim to transform it in order to bestow. At the end of counting of the Omer all the corrected desires sum up, and a person becomes prepared to receive the Torah – the reforming light.
Today, we may think that we are in a similar transition state. While most of our previous systems and relationships are somehow destroyed, the new ones have not been built yet. Therefore, now we have an opportunity to “count” and gradually head toward understanding how we can get in line with the general system of nature “as one man with one heart.”
