Inspection Saloon 975025 (named Caroline) is seen arriving at Swindon off the Kemble line with Cl.37 37423 (named Spirit of the Lakes) on 2Z02 07:17 Ealing Broadway to Reading.
The Inspection Saloon was originally built in 1958 as S60755 as a Hastings Unit Buffet Car. Now much rebuilt and modified it survives as an Inspection Saloon and is widely travelled over the network. The "narrow" Hastings Line gauge of the vehicle is evident.
The Class 37 dates from 1965 and first saw service in S.Wales as D6996. It now bears the latest DRS livery.
Senior staff are seen detraining and boarding at platform 3. Several smiling faces are seen at the front of the saloon and I would be if I was on board!
A spirited departure is made from Swindon and 2Z02 disappears towards the Up Goods Loop at Highworth Jn.
Wednesday 4th June 2014.
