As the monsoon rains wash away the mango season, we capture the story of Agha Fruits and its owner Syed Mateen Agha, who is the uncrowned mango king in Karnataka. Mango, the uncontested king of fruits itself, is a big trading commodity. India contributes 15% of the total world production of mangoes, and it is estimated that exports in 2018 may touch the 50k ton mark.
Syed Mateen Agha has several pulping units across the country that supplies to countries abroad. And though his sons have deployed the latest technology in the pulping business, he believes that when it comes to the trading of the fruit itself it is only WhatsApp that he relies upon.
