Before the San Antonio Spurs played the Sacramento Kings, head coach Gregg Popovich refrained from making a comment about the woman who settled a lawsuit she filed against the team. ✍
Psychologist Dr. Hillary Cauthen alleged that former Spurs guard Josh Primo exposed himself in front of her nine times during private sessions with him. Cauthen said she first reported the matter to the team in January 2022 and claimed that there was no action taken. ✍
“I really don’t have anything to say other than what the organization put out…the statement that they made,” Popovich said during a pregame press conference at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Nov. 17. ✍
Canadien Joshua Lincoln Alexander Primo, a first-round, 12th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, was released by the team on Oct. 28. ✍
Spurs Sports & Entertainment CEO R.C. Buford released a written statement on Nov. 17 addressing the settlement:
“The situation regarding Josh Primo is a matter we take seriously. Since learning of the allegations, we have taken, and are taking, measures to ensure that all parties involved are treated with dignity and respect. We know we owe that to Dr. Cauthen, our players, our staff and our community.
As an organization, we are continuously evaluating and refining our processes so they ultimately reflect the values and culture of who we aspire to be every day. To that end, we have decided to collaborate with Dr. Cauthen and other experts in an effort to review and improve our workplace processes and procedures,” Buford stated.
Popovich did say that he has complete confidence in Spurs’ general manager Brian Wright’s leadership. Cauthen said she alerted Wright after Primo allegedly exposed himself in December 2021.
“Total confidence,” Popovich said of Wright. “He’s wonderful, bright, incisive, he’s a good man and a hard worker. I’m thrilled he’s our general manager."
