In 2015, the brutal and highly publicized murder of Gabriela Kabrins Alban shocked both South Africa and the international community. Gabriela, a successful marketing executive from California, was found dead in a Cape Town hotel room under circumstances that were as bizarre as they were horrific. Her boyfriend, Diego Novella, a wealthy Guatemalan national with a history of drug use, was later convicted of her murder.
