Karnataka agriculture minister B.C. Patil has given an extremely irresponsible statement about the farmers of the country. Speaking at a function at Ponnampet Forestry College in Kodagu, Patil made a statement about a woman who was wearing gold jewels, to whom he asked about how she managed to afford them, to which she replied that these jewels are a gift from the earth as she worked hard in the farms for 35 years to be able to own them. He then gave his controversial triggering statement that if a woman can earn this from farming, why are farmers committing suicide and a farmer who commits suicide is a coward. Now the minister remains unapologetic and denies that he ever made such a comment.
