Festa Junina or São João is a big annual Brazilian celebration of rural life with music, dancing and food. The kids and I went down to Pelorinho to experience this bright holiday. It was awesome!! Millions of colorful flags, meat and corn dishes, Olodum drums, and fun Forro music all on a perfect evening. We loved it.
This tradition came from Portugal but Brazilians added their own flavor. This party takes place in the beginning of the Brazilian winter. These festivities are celebrated during the month of June nationwide. This is a catholic holiday giving thanks to St. John for the rain. They also celebrate rural life and feature typical clothing, food, dance (particularly quadrilha, which is similar to square dancing). Salvador, Bahia, Brazil loves this Holiday. Video 63
