French President Emmanuel Macron and EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen have reached China for a 3-day state visit. The visit comes as the European Union looks to reset ties with China amid a raging war in its backyard. Besides economic ties, Macron and von der Leyen will also discuss the war in Ukraine with Chinese President Xi Jinping. France and other EU nations see “neutral” China as a possible “gamechanger” in the war, that can tip the balance in either direction. The French President is experienced even in dealing with Xi, and is hence expected to be EU’s best bet to promote peace in Ukraine.
