We’re huge fans of Joel Salatin-style rabbit tractors, but we've realized that it isn’t a perfect design for our needs. So we implemented a modification that meaningfully improved our rabbit operation.
Specifically, we removed the slated floor to provide our rabbits with a more even surface to jump around. As a result, our rabbits are more comfortable and consume more vegetation, leading to a lower feed bill.
To prevent them from escaping by digging out, we added a roughly ten-inch apron around all four sides consisting of mesh wire and some 2x1 slates.
