Ukrainians have long suffered from the inferiority complex imposed by the russian authorities, while russia appropriated the Ukrainian achievements in science, literature, and art. Kazimir Malevich, Ilya Repin, Mykola Gogol, Oleksandr Murashko, Dmytro Bortniansky, Igor Sikorsky, Volodymyr Khavkin, Vira Kholodna — all these 'russian' artists and scientists are united by their place of birth — Ukraine, all their achievements were #stolen.
In a new episode, the host of the cycle tells the story of Kazimir Malevich, an avant-garde artist, the founder of Suprematism, and the author of one of the most significant paintings of the 20th century – The Black Square.
Unfortunately, the Soviet totalitarian regime considered his art harmful and prohibited him from creating new paintings.
All his life Kazimir Malevich emphasized that his artistic vision of the world was formed by the Ukrainian village. He often wrote letters in Ukrainian, was inspired by the motives of Ukrainian folk, art, and considered himself a Ukrainian and loved Kyiv with all his heart:
‘...I was drawn to Kyiv more and more. Kyiv remained unique in my memory. Houses made of colored bricks, mountainous terrain, the Dnipro river, distant horizons, steamships. Its life has influenced me more and more.’
