By considering each synclinal interaction and the energy it adds to the overall conformation it is observed that hydrogen/hydrogen synclinal interactions contribute 4 kJ per mol., hydrogen/methyl synclinal interactions contribute 6 kJ per mol. and methyl/methyl synclinal interactions contribute 11 kJ per mol. Thus, syneclipsed is 19 kJ per mol. and eclipsed is 16 kJ per mol.
