India and Myanmar share a 1643-kilometre border.
This Border was marked in 1826 by treaty of Yandaboo after first Anglo Burmese war.
Britishers did not consulted the local people while drawing this line.
People of same ethnicity were divided into two countries without their consent.
These people till today have strong cultural and ethnic ties.
To solve this problem, Indian government started free moment regime after independence.
Under FMR, every member of the hill tribes, who is either a citizen of India or a citizen of Myanmar, who resides within 16 kilometres of the border can cross the border on production of a border pass, usually valid for a year, and can stay up to two weeks per visit.
But this free movement regime is used by terrorist organisations for terror financing, and drug trafficking between India, Myanmar border, therefore Indian government decided to fence the entire 1643-kilometre-long Indo-Myanmar border and suspended the free Movement Regime.
