Female Emperor Dragonflies Anax imperator are shown ovipositing together in intimate close-up. Clearly the vegetation selected for laying appealed to more than one of these handsome dragonflies as they were observed laying together on several occasions, once with one actually settled on the other, and possibly at risk of accidentally laying in her abdomen with her sharp, strong, ovipositor. The tip of the abdomen is used in opposition to the ovipositor to maximise leverage when penetrating the plant tissues. Filmed in London.
