Letea Forest is a real story, which is worth "reading" if you reach the Danube Delta. It reminds us of childhood fairy tales. You know, the ones that described the enchanted trees that we imagined in the same way. Hundred-year-old oaks with twisted branches, vines, sand dunes, wild horses and thousands of bird species all create an exotic and stunning landscape.
Many of the tourists who arrive in Letea Forest, want to see, in addition to dunes and secular trees, wild horses. In the oldest nature reserve in Romania, there are about 2000 wild horses. They were abandoned by the locals during the communist period, either because they had nothing to feed them, or after it was declared "infectious anemia", a condition that led many horse owners to abandon their animals. They have multiplied over the years, and it is now estimated that there are between 3,000 and 5,000 horses in the entire reserve and almost 2,000 in the Letea area.
Letea is a locality located in the northeast of Tulcea County, in the Danube Delta, on the Letea ridge, 102 km from Tulcea. It belongs to the commune of C.A. Rosetti, which consists of 4 villages. Sfiștofca and Periprava, inhabited by Lipovan Russians, Cardon, a hamlet inhabited by Ukrainians and Bulgarians, and Letea, which is a village of Ukrainians. Many Moldovans who came in transhumance with sheep from Moldova and the Republic of Moldova live in the commune of C.A. RosettI.
Letea Forest is beautiful in any season, but it is spectacular in spring and autumn, when the horses graze quietly on the meadows, the flowers delight our eyes with the multitude of colors, the mosquitoes no longer bother us, and the heat is not overwhelming. A trip to Letea Forest is a special experience, at the end of which you will have your phone full of photos.
