Current Situation: A deep area of low pressure is moving away to the north of Scotland but a secondary area of low pressure is developing to the south west approaches...
Today:
Wednesday begins very windy with widespread, inland gusts of 40-50MPH and 70MPH gusts around Irish Sea coasts. There's heavy rain in central and northern regions but the south and east are mostly dry.
Through the day outbreaks of rain will push eastwards across the northern half of the country this morning before clearing out into the north sea. The weather will then turn mostly dry for a time before some very heavy rain spreads eastwards across England and Wales later this afternoon and this evening. Winds will ease and temperatures will be turning colder in the north at 4C to 8C but will stay exceptionally mild in the south at 10C to 14C.
Tonight:
England and Wales will have a very wet evening but the heaviest of the rain will move into the north sea later in the night. Central, northern and western areas will have clear spells and showers with showers turning wintry even to low levels across northern and western Scotland It will be a cold night with a frost and icy patches in the north. Temperatures range from -2C to +5C.
Tomorrow:
Sunshine and snow showers for Scotland with wintry showers into other western areas. The south and east should stay mostly dry with sunny spells. Quite a cold day with temperatures of 2C to 6C.
Outlook:
Friday: Showery rain in the west. Milder.
Saturday: Windy with more showery rain. Very mild.
Sunday: Sunshine and wintry showers. Colder.
