Prime Minister Modi recently announced the introduction of national health IDs for every Indian citizen under the newly launched Digital Health Mission. The digital health ID will store patients’ personal health records that would help consolidate health data, thus ensuring its inter-operability. However, with limited digital infrastructure in the rural areas and absence of a data protection law, this initiative raises a few concerns around inclusion and privacy.
How can the government balance these concerns with its
ambitious plan to create a digital health infrastructure? How can digital transformation of healthcare facilitate equitable and affordable access to healthcare?
