The K2 Black Panther is a technologically sophisticated and unique South Korean battle tank with an outstanding water crossing ability thanks to a very unique feature.
When crossing a body of water, the K2’s turret actually becomes watertight using a snorkel system integrated right into the tank, that then allows it to cross rivers as deep as 13 and a half feet.
To ensure the tank maintains contact with the ground and can keep moving, the Black Panther takes on up to 500 gallons of water which increases its weight by over two tons, and the system takes approximately 30 minutes to prepare the tank for water crossing.
The K2 is 35 feet long, weighs 55 tons, and is operated by a crew of 3 soldiers. It can also climb 60-degree slopes due to its relatively light and compact design.
But having a tank that can operate in such deep water isn’t cheap and each K2 Black Panther costs around $ 8.5 million per unit.
