(14 Nov 2019) Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro on Thursday welcomed leaders of the BRICS emerging economies - from Russia, India, China and South Africa - for a plenary session at the 2019 summit in Brasilia.
Bolsonaro greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the capital's Itamaraty Palace.
After the session, the leaders are expected to hold bilateral meetings.
The five BRICS countries are estimated to jointly represent about 42% of the world population, 23% of global GDP, 30% of the geographical territory and 18% of global trade.
The theme of the 2019 summit is "Economic Growth for an Innovative Future."
