Today on our 2016 Toyota RAV4 we're going to be doing a test fit on the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains. Part number PW1046 and that's tire size 235/55-R18. These Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains feature a ladder pattern, so they're going to be very effective during breaking and accelerating. They feature steel rollers on the cross cables, so they're going to provide you with adequate traction. They're also going to provide you with a smoother ride than chains that have links on them. They're low profile, they're SAE class S chains, and they're designed for vehicles with limited wheel well clearance. They have a maximum speed rating of 30 mph and they come in a quantity of two.
Now I'll show you how easy it is to get them installed. To start off we're going to be putting chains on the front tires of our RAV4 because it is driven mostly by the front axle. To begin our test fit I've laid out the chain. It's a good idea to make sure there's no kinks, twists, or any tangles in it. You also want to be sure that the hooks here, the open side is facing up away from our tire. Now we can just take our chain and drape it over the tire.
Now you want to make sure it's even on both sides. An easy way to do that is to grab here in the front, feel around to the back, and make sure it's about the same. Then we can finish bringing it around our tire and we'll hook up the back first. Here on the backside what we want to do is take our eyelet here and our stoppers here and connect them together, but we don't want to connect too many together, because then we won't be able to connect the front side evenly. We'll start off by connecting four or five. We can always change it later.
Now lets do the front. Here on the front we're going to do the exact same thing, only this time we're going to try to connect as many as we can. Looks like it's going to be that one there. Then we can take our keeper here and connect it and this is just going to keep from flapping around while we're on the road. Once you get one side done you can go ahead and repeat the same process for the other side. Once you get both sides done, the manufacturer does recommend using a rubber adjuster.
What this is going to do is it's going to help keep that cable chain nice and tight around our tire while we're on the road. You can pick up two with part number PW105. They're easy to install. Be sure that the hook is facing away from the tire. We'll connect the top then we'll go across and then work our way around. You can see how it's already starting to snug up that cable. That's what we want. Now it is a good idea to drive a short distance, stop, get out, check to see if you need to make any adjustments. That's going to complete our test fit on the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains. Part number PW1046 on our 2016 Toyota RAV4. .
