Session 3: The Power of Place
From imagined gardens and teeming hunting grounds, to domestic interiors such as boudoirs and studios, the settings portrayed in an artwork play an integral role in what is being communicated. In this session, contemplate the power of place, both public and private, and the realities, dreams and myths enacted there.
Featuring 65 superb paintings from one of the world’s finest art museums, ‘European Masterpieces from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York’ at the Gallery of Modern Art (12 June ― 17 October 2021) tells stories of Europe across 500 years, and the pivotal role art plays in reflecting and reshaping history.
