Initially skeptical, Narsimha Rao was persuaded by Singh’s vision of reforms that balanced growth with protections for the poor. Singh dismantled licensing controls, amended restrictive trade laws, reformed taxation, and opened public sectors to competition. His transformative legacy, detailed in his daughter Daman Singh’s book *Strictly Personal,* comes into focus following his passing at 92, leaving a lasting imprint on India’s economic history.
