Standard vaccinations in children for an array of diseases have helped to the lower the incidence rate of many diseases. Polio, meningitis, influenza and pneumonia are just a few of those diseases. Pediatrician, Dr. Frederick Mandell, explains other important reasons why he recommends getting your children vaccinated.
Frederick Mandell, MD: Many parents have questions about vaccinations, whether they should do all at once, whether they should space them out, which vaccinations are more important than others and I found most recently that more parents seem to want to space out the vaccination or have a different schedule than I have.
As a physician I am very willing to space out the vaccinations as long as they have the vaccinations. I think these vaccinations are protective, it would lower the incidence of meningitis secondary to Haemophilus influenza, it would the incidence of pneumonia, it would lower the incidence of polio remarkably.
Vaccinations are terribly important for children. Unfortunately, there have been studies about nasal vaccine and its relationship to autism have been refuted. There is no evidence that there is a relationship between nasal vaccine and autism.
From my point of view, I would like parents to understand that these vaccines are preventative and they will prevent illnesses that a child might have if the child is not vaccinated.
Frederick Mandell, MD is a pediatrician practicing in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Dr. Mandell has been in practice for 44 years specializing in pediatric urology.
