GlobalFire volunteers are in Tonga instructing vertical rope rescue training with Tonga Fire & Emergency Services with equipment generously donated by Rubicon Safety Inc. and London Fire Department. The training includes: Basic rope construction and durability, knot tying, safety, low level vs high level rope systems, rescue techniques, lowering and raising a victim, mechanical advantage 1;1, 2:1, 3:1 systems, building a high line to ferry victims across a river or void. The team also incorporated a process for organizing and cleaning the equipment as gear is hard to come by in Tonga and our instructors provided tips for making the equipment last.
