"The Mecca Accord came to abort the principle of true partnership between the forces (factions), for the benefit of Fatah and Hamas. STORYLINE
Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas met with representatives of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) faction in Gaza on Monday.
After the meeting between Abbas and PFLP, the faction's spokesman Rabah Mhanna announced his party will not participate in the unity government.
"The Mecca Accord came to abort the principle of true partnership between the forces (factions), for the benefit of Fatah and Hamas. For those reasons we assured him (Abbas) that we will not participate in the eleventh Palestinian government that basically was based on an agreement between Fatah and Hamas," said Mhanna
Abbas was in Gaza for a series of coalition talks on Sunday and also met with Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh.
Further meetings between the president and the premier took place on Monday night ending with statements from their respective spokesmen announcing talks would be continued.
In an official statement made earlier that day, after the Palestinian cabinet meeting, it was announced that coalition talks will continue for one more week.
