A Treatise on Political Economy, trans. Thomas Jefferson (Georgetown, DC: W. A. Rind & Co., 1817)
Antoine Destutt de Tracy (1754-1836) was a French philosopher who coined the term "ideology"—a discipline devoted to tracing our ideas to their origins in sense experience. Tracy's book, A Treatise on Political Economy, was translated into English with the assistance of Thomas Jefferson, after which it became a popular textbook on free-market economics in American universities.
The Libertarianism.org Readers series provides an introduction to the major ideas and thinkers in the libertarian tradition.
