Education cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has told the senate committee on education that 68 schools have been hit by arson this year. Dr. Matiang’i blames failure to take action against perpetrators for the increasing cases of unrest. He says since 2007, 317 cases have been reported but less than 20 per cent have been prosecuted successfully. He said all cases of arson will be investigated and those involved prosecuted.
