A recent study shows some encouraging numbers relating to extended enhanced unemployment benefits and the rise once again of the US economy.
According to Business Insider: “the study estimates that the $600 supplement to UI increased total spending from April to July by 2% to 2.6%.”
They also stated: “Additionally, the drop in job search from the supplement only decreased employment by 0.2% to 0.4%.”
These figures are certainly encouraging for both employment figures and the US economy, and I hope that with further unemployment stimulus measures, we’ll continue to see America fully rebound from that thing out there.
Meanwhile, for all of my viewers in Washington D.C., it’s looking like the state is working hard to get your claims approved, and are pumping in $11 million to ensure all claims are addressed promptly and accurately.
D.C. Department of Employment Services Director Dr. Unique Morris-Hughes explained: “We’re going to bring on approximately 200 people, who are going to support not only call taking but also processing claims.”
She also stated that they aim to clear their backlog, saying: “We have currently about 3,500 pending claims. These are folks who have filed waiting to get a decision from us.”
This is great news for everyone living in the nation’s capital, and I hope that delayed unemployment claims across America can be resolved as soon as possible.
Finally, we’ve been hearing different figures about how long the weekly $400 extended enhanced unemployment benefits will last, with some estimates expecting the funds to last until the end of August, while others have these benefits going through all of September.
Fortunately, it looks like leading Democrats and economists are pushing for more benefits, with some people hoping to extend the unemployment funds through the end of 2021.
Marc Goldwein, head of policy at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, explained: "Trying to get this to the end of the year would make sense.”
He continued: “Only getting to August makes very little sense as both an economic issue and a legislative issue. It's not a good time to have a cliff."
With various Democratic leaders fighting for extended enhanced unemployment benefits through at least September, hopefully we’ll see more weeks rather than fewer once the $1.9 trillion stimulus package is officially complete.

Simply check out your state’s PUA or UI website, show them your employment history and ID, and let them know that you’ve been out of work due to that thing out there, if that’s the case.
