In breaking news coming in, a new variant of Covid-19 has been found in India. The Omicron XE variant of the Coronavirus is the reason behind the surge of Covid cases in China this week. Now it has been detected in Mumbai, the first case of the sub-variant. As a part of another batch or genome sequencing, samples of Covid patients were tested at Kasturba Hospital & NIV Pune, when the variant was found. Out of 230 samples from Mumbai, one was tested positive for Omicron XE and one for a Kappa variant. The patients' conditions are stable so far.
This comes in when just last week the Maharashtra government had removed all Covid-19 mandates, including masking and social distancing. On the other hand, China is witnessing a new surge of covid cases in Shanghai, with over 13,000 asymptomatic cases on just Tuesday.
