Speaker 1:
00:01 What do you think about WASP and which is your experience with the instrument?
WASP is an interesting system, very important in bacteriology to plant and streak all samples. WASP has two robots which take the samples, bring it to the barcode reader to identify the right protocol and streak all the samples according to the defined protocol.
For the technicians WASP is the right instrument to save time, at the beginning we had some problems due to the fact we didn’t know the instrument, now everything is clear and we can manage any kind of situation.
We decide what the WASP has to do, for example in case of tubes and plates loading and unloading, and we can solve any problems.
Speaker 2:
01:23 It was easy to connect WASP with LIS? How did you create the protocols? Which are for you WASP advantages?
To create the WASP protocol has been very easy. We prepared a program in which we decided the right protocol for all the samples, plate, loop, incubation atmosphere… We did it rapidly and then the LIS who manage everything.
The WASP advantages are: the technician’s timesaving, in fact we have only to load and unload the tubes and the plates, WASP can work alone. The technicians have been allocated for more qualitative activities, for example cytology…
Another advantage is the traceability, we can have a report with all the information as plates expiry date and lot number and on the plate label we can add all the information we desire, for example the time/day of streaking, the plate used and name of the sample; it was too difficult to do it working manually.
Speaker 3:
02:38 Could you please tell us which kind of tubes can use on WASP and which are the samples you can process on it?
For urine samples we use Crosselin tubes that can be used on WASP.
It’s important to have the liquid phase.
03:35 What about Copro-culture?
Concerning Copro-culture we use Copan tubes, the same kit with swap and tube, the sample is in liquid phase and without any pre-processing we can load the tube on WASP.
03:56 Do you use some enrichment broth for Fecal samples?
Regarding fecal samples, we use also a Copan enrichment broth, we decided to inoculate the broth manually, and after 24h we load the selenite tube in WASP for streaking.
Speaker 4:
04:08 Which plates do you use and what do think about the isolation?
For urine samples, we streak chromagar plates, we obtain a really good isolation. We use Copan collection system for all samples, for example for the vaginal’s ones as you can see, the isolation is perfect.
We also search Staphylococcus aureus and again, we have very nice results.
Regarding the isolation, we can see well isolated colonies.
