(3 May 2018) Warmer weather has finally arrived in New York City, and with it comes the spring auction season.
Christies auction house offered a sneak peak Thursday into their upcoming sale of Impressionist, Modern and Post-War, Contemporary Art collections.
"The categories are have very fluid borders but impressionist art, impressionist paintings paintings, so paintings that were created after the classicism period of the 19th century," said Alexander Rotter, Chairman of Post-War and Contemporary art at Christie's said. "You had Monet and Manet walking out into the landscape and painting their impressions. So what you see in little brush strokes, little points that's impressionism so it's art basically that was created in the late 19th century into the early part of the 20th century."
Works from Picasso, Bacon and Warhol as well as an up-close view of Koons's colossal sculpture 'Play-Doh' are up for sale during 20th Century Week in New York.
The Impressionist and Modern Art evening sale is set for May 15 followed by the Post-War and Contemporary Art evening sale on May 17.
