If Chris Reeve Knives wants to continue to use S35VN, they should get in touch with the guys at ESEE and ask them if the folks who heat treat their S35VN knives will share the secret formula.
Oh as a follow-up, I learned from Shane at ESEE, that there is no secret formula. The people who heat treat ESEE's S35VN are simply following the recipe as directed from Crucible. So, what is the deal with CRK? Well, they invented the stuff, however, I guess not wearing out belts and tools is more important than giving a knife customer a knife that will actually cut for an extended period of time.
I try to explain the differences between the steels in these knives and hopefully provide you with some useful information so you can purchase your next knife with a little extra knowledge.
Here are a couple other videos about the crap heat treat of Chris Reeve Knives.
The one that basically got the ball rolling.
