Continuing on with our 'no promises' weekend...we finally decided to leave our campsite to do some exploring. Our first activity was biking the old rail trail. This is the only trail in Algonquin that wasn't listed as a mountain bike trail, so we figured our bikes would be good enough to head out with. Although they survived the trek, we would not recommend biking this trail without a mountain bike. The trail itself was pretty nice - shaded/tree covered, but beside a river. The one downside is that at the time we went, the trail was INFESTED with bugs, particularly mosquitos and black flies. We were getting bit so much that we didn't end up biking the whole trail.
Our next activity was a short 2km hike on the Lake of Two Rivers Trail. This was the perfect hike because the trailhead is just across the street from the Mew Lake campground, so we were able to walk over to it to do the hike. The hike itself was pretty easy, and had some lookouts where you could see above the tree line!
