This is my 2014 Indian Chieftain. After the 5000 mile service, I started to hear a lot of engine noise after it warmed up. Piston clacking noise in this video starts at about 0:35.
The piston "clacking" noise is caused by the piston rocking at the bottom of cylinder as it changes direction -- while it may not cause engine failure, it is sometimes very loud and disconcerting. Those that have Install the redesigned piston (in 2018+ models) no longer hear piston clacking.
Not all 2014-2017 TS111 engines experience piston clacking. It is believed that this is a result of multiple engine component manufacture that are at the far extreme of acceptable size tolerances.
You can also hear a lot of noise from the valve-train (lifter/pushrod/rocker-arm), which is annoying but not a serious mechanical problem, just too much play in the components.
This was recorded on an iPhone mounted on the handlebars. In the video with the dash showing, the sound was recorded through the iPhone earbud microphone hanging below the dash. Sorry about the wind noise (it was a windy afternoon).
