Hi, Ante here!
It's been over 13 years since Bitcoin was launched. And over the course of those 13 years, a lot has happened. However, many people aren't aware that Bitcoin didn't just come out of the blue. It came as a result of decades of work by dozens of computer scientists and cryptographers. Bitcoin was the first functional P2P payment network in history, but it only happened because of all the people we will mention in this video and many others.
This group of rebels who gave rise to Bitcoin are called The Cypherpunks. We'll explain how they got their name, who were the founding members and what were the ideals they were motivated by.
We will cover most notable crypto projects before Bitcoin, starting with DigiCash, founded by David Chaum, the very person who came up with the term "blockchain". We'll move on to Hashcash, which is the first system that used Proof-of-Work, Hal Finney's Reusable PoW and Wei Dai's b-money. Finally, we'll briefly touch on Nick Szabo and his project - Bit Gold, because of which many people still suspect that he is indeed the Bitcoin's creator - Satoshi Nakamoto.
Other than projects themselves, we'll mention two more people who made their respective contributions to the community. The first is Phil Zimmermann, the creator of PGP encryption, and the other is Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.
What ties them all together and what goals did they all fight for? Follow me down the rabbit hole to find out!
Thanks for watching!
