They had 4 popes, married into several of the European royal houses, and unintentionally helped to sparke the reformation. They were the patrons of the arts and sponsored people like Michelangelo, Brunelleschi and Leonardo da Vinci.
Before, they quietly disappeared from the European power scene. So, who was the Medici family, how did they rise from relative poverty to become the rulers of the renaissance?
