1. Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh
The Mughal design of paradise on earth, the Taj Mahal located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh is even today an attention grabber due to its pristine glory and purity. The visual ambience and the quality of marble used are in perfection here.


2. Qutab Minar in Delhi
The Qutub Minar in New Delhi the capital of India, is constructed with red sandstone and marble, and is the tallest minaret in India, with a height of 72.5 metres (237.8 ft). It contains 379 stairs and the base diameter is 14.3 metres and it narrows to 2.7 metres at the last storey




3. Khajuraho temples in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh
Khajuraho has the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, famous for their erotic sculptures. The temples are made of sandstone, and were built between 950 and 1150, by the Chandela rulers.



4. Ajanta & Ellora caves in Aurangabad, Maharashtra
Ajanta is nearly 80 kms from Ellora. Ajanta has 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE. Ellora has over 34 cave like structures excavated out of the vertical face of the Charanandri hills. Buddhist, Hindu and Jain rock-cut temples and viharas and mathas were built between the 5th century and 10th century.




5. Sun temple in Konark, Odisha
Konark Sun Temple is a 13th century Sun Temple at Konark, in Orissa. It was constructed from sandstone by King Narasimhadeva I . The entire complex was designed in the form of the God's huge chariot drawn by seven spirited horses on twelve pairs of exquisitely decorated wheels at its base.



6. Jaisalmer fort in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan
Jaisalmer Fort is one of the largest forts in the world. The fort stands proudly amidst the golden stretches of the great Thar Desert, on Trikuta Hill, and has been the scene of many battles. Its massive yellow sandstone walls are a tawny lion color during the day, fading to honey-gold as the sun sets, thereby camouflaging the fort in the yellow desert. For this reason, it is also known as the "Golden Fort".



7. Sanchi stupa in Sanchi, Madhya Pradesh
Sanchi is a small village in Raisen District of the state of Madhya Pradesh. The 'Great Stupa' at Sanchi is the oldest stone structure in India and was originally commissioned by the emperor Ashoka the Great in the 3rd century BCE. Its nucleus was a simple hemispherical brick structure built over the relics of the Buddha.


8. Fatehpur sikri in Agra, Uttar Pradesh
Once the capital of Akbar Fatehpur sikri has many architectural monuments like Buland Darwaza, Jama Masjid, Tomb of Salim Chishti, Diwan-i-Am, Diwan-i Khas, Panch Mahal, Birbal House etc. The building material used in all the buildings at Fatehpur Sikri, palace-city complex, is the locally quarried red sandstone, known as 'Sikri sandstone'


9. Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai, Tamil Nadu
It is dedicated to Parvati who is known as Meenakshi and her consort, Shiva, named here as Sundareswarar. The temple forms the heart and lifeline of the 2500 year old city of Madurai. The "Aayiram Kaal Mandapam" or Thousand Pillar Hall contains 985 (usually reffered to as 1000) carved pillars.



10. Kumbalgarh fort in Kumbalgarh, Rajasthan
The Jain Dilwara temples of India are located about 2 kilometers from Mount Abu, Rajasthan's only hill station. These temples built by Chalukya between the 11th and 13th centuries AD are world famous for their stunning use of marble. The five legendary marble temples of Dilwara are a sacred pilgrimage place of the Jains.
