We visited the area during the month of July in 2024 which is over the rainy season. We did in fact experience some rain, but it didn't stop us from getting to see and do some amazing activities!

During our first full day of exploring we went to the Arenal Waterfalls. You can book tickets online (during the busy season) or pay upon arrival (off peak time) for $20 US dollars per person. There is plenty of free parking at the ticket office and the waterfalls are only a 10 minute drive from the city centre.

(no swimming during the rainy season (our summer) - definitely worth the hike down to see the falls!!

Next we hit up the FREE HOT SPRINGS for a relaxing hour and a half. It is recommended that you give $5000 Colones ($10 US) to the parking attendants to "keep an eye" on your vehicle while you are soaking in the river. The hot springs are about 15mins outside of the city centre and you park just past the Tabacon resort. There will be attendants on the road directing traffic. This was a MUST do for us!!

Day 2 was spent hiking the trail system at Mirador El Silencio on the Arenal Volcano. Our research showed this trail gets you the closest to the top of the volcano on the lava fields, has less tourists, the best hiking trails (6km worth) and happens to be the cheapest at $10 US per person. FREE Parking at the ticket office. It is only a 15-20 minute drive outside the centre and also just past the Tabacon resort and the free hot springs.

During the afternoon we decided to walk 15 minutes over to the El SALTO ROPE SWING. This is also a FREE activity and was a blast. We had so much fun here swinging and swimming.

(The house was perfectly located and well appointed, easily walkable to town with many restaurants, groceries (Super Rosvil), tours and the El Salto rope swing)
