RD24245(vid). A short video shot at Pontarfynach / Devil’s Bridge which is the upper terminus of the 2ft gauge Vale of Rheidol Railway. This narrow gauge railway is 12 miles long and runs from the Cambrian Coast of mid-Wales up the Rheidol Valley climbing 680 feet and giving some spectacular views in the process.
The video starts with 2-6-2T No. 8 arriving with a train from Aberystwyth and then we see Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST MARGARET which was giving members of the public the chance to ‘be a driver for a fiver’. In exchange for £5, one can have a quick lesson on how to drive a steam locomotive or, alternatively, for £3 one can just have a footplate ride.
