This sturdy looking stud has just joined the Sagat Dorper Sheep Breeders family from the prestigious Capri Dorper Sheep Farm Ltd., Nyahururu. The stud is a product of a South African T5 ram and a crossbred Kenyan Dorper ewe from Gicheha Farms Ltd., Northlands, Ruiru. The ram was born on 16th July 2024 with a birthweight of 3.94kg. At exactly 4 months one week of age, the ram weighs a staggering 50.54kg! This impressive weight-gain is attributable to a mix of superior genes, first-class nutrition and excellent disease and parasite control. The stud is poised to breed crossbred Kenyan Dorper ewes in January 2025. The ewes are currently being flushed to boost their ovulation, conception and embryo implantation rates. The increased level of nutrition is expected to increase the ewes’ chances of twining. Always remember, that rams are responsible for 50% of the genetic pool in any sheep flock and, therefore, have a large influence on the overall performance of the flock.
