Sanibel is a city on Sanibel Island in southwest Florida. It’s known for beaches filled with shells that wash ashore from the Gulf of Mexico. Lighthouse Beach has a fishing pier, the towering, 19th-century Sanibel Lighthouse and a boardwalk winding through marshes. The Causeway Beaches are a water-sports hub and have picnic facilities. J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge covers about half of the island.
Captiva is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Lee County, Florida, United States. It is located on Captiva Island. As of the 2020 census the population was 318, down from 583 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Cape Coral-Fort Myers, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area.
